Context
Glasgow 2026 was a reset moment for the Commonwealth Games. Alongside the sport, the organisation needed to speak clearly to a very different audience from the fan base: governments, future hosts, commercial partners, member associations and the wider sport sector. That audience largely lives on LinkedIn, and it judges an organisation by whether its leaders sound credible in public.
My role
I was responsible for Commonwealth Sport’s LinkedIn channel during the Games and for executive social media on behalf of the President and CEO. I sat with the communications team, worked alongside senior leadership on the ground, and captured my own photo and video where a moment needed to be told from inside the room rather than from the press feed.
Approach
- Built a three-post daily framework so the channel always covered leadership, impact, partnerships and legacy rather than defaulting to results coverage.
- Drafted and published executive posts, turning venue visits, partner meetings, ceremonies and legacy moments into content the President and CEO could stand behind.
- Mapped each major Games-time moment — future hosts, the Games Reset model, the Longines partnership and the eqUIP programme — against Commonwealth Sport's strategic pillars before writing.
- Advised senior leaders and the communications team on tone, message hierarchy and which opportunities were worth taking.
- Shot behind-the-scenes photo and video on site so posts carried authentic, first-hand imagery.
Outcome
The channel carried a consistent Games-time voice for the full competition period, with executive content published daily rather than in bursts. Leadership messages, partnership announcements and legacy stories each had a home in the schedule, and senior leaders had a single point of contact for social media decisions during the busiest weeks of the organisation’s year.
